Introducing: Repairs!
Crochet and knitted work is not perfect. That is part of the beauty of handmade, that it will have human error, which can lead to unraveling and falling apart. As part of building this website and business, I put a call out to my local “Buy Nothing Group” for broken pieces in need of repair. I fixed this for free, as practice and to use the content for the site.
Sweater:
This was machine-made and very easy to fix. I sew it together with embroidery thread.
Baby blanket:
I got mega frustrated as I fixed this and it fell apart some more. It was not the stitch but the material itself that was degrading, as this was a cotton blanket at least 30 years old. Cotton is biodegradable so this is what is supposed to happen. I crocheted small parts for the big holes and sew together the other smaller parts where the fiber was failing with embroidery thread. Advised the owner to not wash the blanket and mostly use it as décor.
Lavender Afghan:
This was fun although it also took FOREVER. I had to figure out the direction of the stitch and some other tricks that I had not done before. I loved the result as you cannot even tell what happened.
I hope I can do more of these kind of work and help crochet pieces live longer.
